A new era of Flight Simulation awaits

Microsoft has announced that the succesor to Microsoft Flight Simulator will be released somewhere in 2024, under the name Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS2024).

At the same moment as the announcement Microsoft has released an announcement trailer, which is showing a careermode, and several type of aircraft, including helicopters, hot air balloons, zeppelins and experimental aircraft. There are no airliners in the trailer, but Microsoft already confirmed that these will be included in the simulator.

Flight Simulator 2024 is a complete new stand-alone version, and won't be an upgrade to the current version of Microsoft Flight Simulator. In a brief explanation, Microsoft states that the Asobo-engine has 'significantly evolved' in MSFS2024.
